New antibiotics to combat One Health AMR

Antimicrobial resistance, a major driver of antibiotic use, is causing a decline in antibiotic research and increasing consumption in food-producing animals and intensive farming. This leads to untreatable infections by antimicrobial-resistant bacteria, costing the medical and veterinary industries billions of dollars annually. The World Health Organization has declared antimicrobial resistance one of the top ten global public health threats. To combat this, drug discovery efforts need to focus on developing antibacterials with novel mechanisms of action.
